JJ, first off, this is a thread for joining Saizen, not suggesting anime you want us to “make”. Secondly, we don’t make anime, we subtitle anime. Thirdly, this anime has been suggested more than one time, and that’s when it gets annoying.

Hey, what does it mean that newer OVA’s seem to be immune to streaming? Off the top of my head, I can think of at least 3 possible meanings:
– They’re released in a format that does not lend itself very well to streaming (.avi or something).
– They’re not licensed to be streamed by services like youtube, huluplus, netflix, etc.
– The originals that the fansubbers get are messed up, even if the format is OK (audio, video, and subtitle tracks are out of sync).
Which one is it? Or is there something I’m not thinking of?
Oh, and what do you guys do for the QA process?
Hi A-Style, we’ve put that little note about OVAs (and the same goes for movies too, actually) because as a general rule, most new anime series are simulcast by the likes of CR, etc. and it’s really not worth competing with them. The difference with OVAs is that they rarely get streamed and/or licensed, so we’re more like to look at doing them. Or older series, as we have been doing.
QC basically consists of watching the subtitled video before it’s released to the general public and noting down everything that’s wrong with it(typos, dodgy grammar, errant sign typesetting) so that we can make our releases top-notch.
Hey what does a timer do? Synchronizes subs with audio?

beetlelisk: yes, in essence, that is what a timer do (but you’ll need to learn how to use timing post processor and spot “scene bleeds” with the naked eye). And as long as you learn the skill and are willing to work, of course we want you even if you’ve got no prior experience.

I have some small experience from subbing 1 episode of Polish documentary to English but software I used is on different PC so I can’t tell you it’s name atm.
What are “scene bleeds”?
What is the software used for timing?
Scene bleed is when the subtitles hang over a visual scene change for just one or a few frames, which gives an unpleasant flicker feel. You either shorten it or let it hang longer, depending on the situation.
I think most people use Aegisub. Google that and “timing guide” and you’ll find quite a few. All may not be good…
If I help with timing, do I get to pick a show to get finished?… I have one I have waited 12 years to get finished and it only has 6 eps left to go….damn I coulda learned Japanese in that time… I could also edit if that is needed more.
Out of sheer curiosity, what show have you been waiting 12 years for? Generally the timer works across the board on all our shows due to the nature of timing, but as mentioned in our starter post, we’re open to suggestions.

The show is Daa Daa Daa … Perhaps you have heard of it?.. the “official” group only releases one ep every 9 months or so.. looks like they hate it so much they only do one minute at a time…
And yes.. in this one instance I AM being snarky…I love that show and do not see why it can’t just be done (even in an engrish way) just to get it over with..
Otherwise i am just like everyone else… gratful for the ones who DO finish what they start.
I don’t think you read this info, I am not sure about it but I think they said there’s a problem with that anime’s RAW, they need to fix each ep frame by frame or so .. but I am sure they said there’s a big problem within the RAW so it’s better for them as a quality group to release it in good condition.
Oni: You realize Daa Daa Daa is a project of Frostii & Aone, right? And Frostii is a team we’ve worked a lot with…?
well I have DVD raws and they are just fine… I wonder what they see I don’t… they play just fine have no artifacts and are not rainbowed or banded…?? shrug ??

Has anyone at Saizen ever considered taking on ‘Dokaben’? It looks like a nice lost baseball classic to me though idk just how good it is. It would be a pretty huge project but if anything ever considers it I would gladly help as much as I can in any position (other than translator) for the entire duration. Personally it’s the football stuff I’m not into… always hated the game and the associated firms of casuals, although I loved that old movie where th Yank kid goes to Brazil to learn soccer-fu from Pele…

Too stupid or lazy too read, dunno which.
It’s because you are assuming two things:
1. People read the older posts (maybe some do, but by far most people go to the comments section just to comment, not to _read_ the comments).
2. People know how you would respond (they don’t, because usually they won’t be the same person and have no clue to begin with).
So yeah, that’s why it’s kinda pointless to get annoyed at those questions, I think.
It might be best to have a page dedicated to saying “don’t ask us” with a short “why”, and _always_ just link people to that whenever they ask.

I have been looking for a good quality subbing group for a while now, especially since I watch anime shows on a daily basis and sometimes I notice wrong Japanese translations. I am a native Japanese speaker (born&raised in Japan) but I’ve also lived in US for about 10 years so I know exactly how to translate little Japanese sayings or jokes. I also LOVE old school anime like Lupin the III and Ranma 1/2. I grew up watching Ghibli movies and Salormoon since I was a little girl, so I know a lot about anime. Not so much about new anime series, but I would love to translate any kind of anime!
