And for our second CP Day 2024 release, we have another installment of Baby and Me! This time, Minoru gets isekai’d and has to save a princess. But will he ever return to his own world? Of course he will. This isn’t that kind of show.
Anyway, Merry Christmas one and all (and happy whatever-you-celebrate to people who celebrate something else) and from all the team here at Saizen, we hope you have a fantastic new year.
It’s that time again. No, not Yawara batch release time because I spent so long stalling making the torrent (though I did do that and that is also what is happening here). It’s Christmas Eve, which is also the day each year that we celebrate the life of our much-missed friend and fansubbing colleague, ConsiderPhlebas. Due to his major involvement in our Yawara project, it seems only fitting to release more nice, shiny, BD-quality episodes, and once again, the Yawara team haven’t let us down, because they have another batch of 7 episodes for your entertainment. So sit back and relax with a couple of hours of peak judo. You know you want to. Oh and yay, we’ve made it to triple-digits! Not much left to go now, folks!
As always, this is a joint with those fine people over at Live-eviL so be sure to give them a note of gratitude for all of their hard work too. And watch out for another CP day release later on today!
Tch, typical. You wait forever for a Yawara episode and 7 (SEVEN) show up at once. And it’s turned into a New York-based action series now, with all those car chases and shootings and things. I tell you, can’t rely on anything these days…
Yes, you read that right: Saizen is officially 20 years old! We don’t usually mark anniversaries, but we figured the big ol’ two-zero was one that merited at least a newspost (I had planned to release some things, but uh, circumstance conspired against me. On the plus side, watch out for some actual releases in the next few weeks because we have a few things ready to go and more stuff in the works!).
10 years ago, we marked our anniversary by going on a release spree culminating in the completion of a major long-term project, but 10 years later, this was never going to be a possibility. Unfortunately, time has thinned our numbers and drained our motivation for fansubbing to the point where nearly everyone in the group is either retired, semi-retired, or about to retire (or in my case, just far too busy to actually do any subbing). It’s a little depressing, I’ll admit, but such is life. We all have different priorities as we grow older. But while our output has noticeably declined over the years, rest assured that we still remain determined to finish the projects we’ve started (and perhaps a few more besides that). It just might take us a little longer than it would have previously.
If you are still with us on our fansubbing journey, thanks for sticking around. And while I’m less optimistic about Saizen being around for another 10 years than Juggen was in those heady mid-2010 days when we turned 10, I hope we’ll be around for some time to come in order to finish up some of the stuff we’ve committed to.
While there have been quite a few notable football series since the turn of the decade (Blue Lock, Ao Ashi, and Farewell, My Dear Cramer), the decade before offered slim pickings for football fans, stretching right back to the powerhouse that was Giant Killing at the beginning of the 2010s. The only real exception to this (aside from the remake of Captain Tsubasa if you’re into that) was a 2016 series called DAYS. Following a complete novice in Tsukamoto Tsukushi, it was a somewhat basic look at high school football, but it had a colourful cast and some enjoyable footie action, and while its 24-episode run didn’t do quite enough to earn itself a sequel series, in 2018, a three-episode set of OVAs was released to bring some resolution to the story. These episodes were subbed and released by Orphan way back in 2019, but another set of OAD episodes that was packaged with the manga in 2017 and focused on a training camp remained unsubbed. Step forward the combined forces of Orphan and Saizen! This one’s been in the vault for a while (due to staffing issues for both groups) but we finally got it over the line after many years of trying. So if you’re a fan of the series or just like watching a bunch of high school dudes goofing off for the best part of 45 minutes, this release is for you. Enjoy!
We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to bring you a romantic period drama. Yes, no babies in sight (they’re romance-killers, after all), only vintage parasols, cherry blossoms falling all around, and ladies swooning if you so much as even look in their direction. Ah, a simpler time…
That’s all for CP Day this year, so all that remains for me to say is Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, everyone!
